Sonny’s BBQ announces that Lucille Tillman, the wife of founder, Floyd “Sonny” Tillman, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 08, 2021, at the age of 91. Lucille passed away at their family home in High Springs, FL with her family by her side.

Sonny and Lucille founded Sonny’s BBQ in 1968 in Gainesville, FL in hopes of creating a local BBQ joint for their community to enjoy. She played a pivotal role in her husband’s accomplishments, helping him to create one of the nation’s best barbecue restaurants.

They were married for over 70 years and brought joy to everyone around them. She truly embodied Sonny’s BBQ values of kindness and compassion. Lucille loved cooking southern meals, entertaining friends and family, and cheering on the Florida Gators.

“Gracious, kind, supportive, loving are just a few words that describe her. She was truly the matriarch of Sonny’s and, along with Sonny, himself, why we have always been honest when we proudly say we are part of the “Sonny’s Family.” Replacing her is impossible; honoring her is a must. Lucille Tillman was special in all the best ways,” said Jamie Yarmuth, Chief Executive Officer of Sonny’s Franchise Company.

Lucille was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to their family in this difficult time. Lucille will be missed dearly.
