At Sonny’s, we cherish our First Responders and all they do to keep our communities safe. As a token of our appreciation, we asked for Random Acts of BBQ nominations for deserving Law Enforcement Officers who go above and beyond the call of duty and make a difference. We spent the past couple of months surprising them alongside their family and peers with #RandomActsofBBQ where we celebrated and recognized these officers and served them up some delicious BBQ. It’s the least we could do to say thanks for their commitment to serving our local communities.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office
James and Kristen McNab, Sonny’s Franchisees, spent the day recognizing Sheriff Wayne Ivey and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office with a #RandomActsofBBQ. Sheriff Wayne was nominated by several citizens in his community for being a special individual who selflessly gives his time, talents, and efforts to make Brevard County safe. As he accepted his reward, he could not gush about his team more. He said, “I am surrounded by an amazing team of brave men and women who make our agency shine and they truly deserve the credit for everything our agency does.” Per his request, the McNab team also donated meals to all his agency Lieutenants who were taking part in Leadership Training.
Senior Master Deputy J Sounders
The Sonny’s team in Bushnell, FL, celebrated Senior Master Deputy J Sounders for his commitment and volunteerism within the Bushnell Community. He was nominated for being an outstanding Deputy. He gives his all for the community of Bushnell and goes beyond the normal call of duty. During Christmas last year, he took it upon himself to purchase gifts for children who otherwise would not have had one. His team is proud to call him a co-worker but even prouder to call him a friend. They call him the Swiss Army Knife because he works every zone, works different beats and helps anyone in need. He is also a Dive Underwater Recovery Unit Team Member, a Patrol Officer and a volunteer at local schools. We are so thankful to have him protecting our community.
Paul Comini
The Sonny’s team at Palm Harbor had the honor of surprising Paul Comini, a School Resource Officer at Countryside High School. His wife, fellow teachers and police officers all gathered to celebrate him. He has been there for about 5 years and has gone out of his way for the kids every day. He has done everything from just being there as a sounding board all the way to acting in the school play when they needed a constable for “The Music Man.” Kids often come back to the school after they graduate just to visit him because he was their favorite person while they were in class. It’s nothing for him to loan a dollar for the vending machine or provide a snack if a kid gets hungry. He represents law enforcement in a positive light and shows these kids that police officers can be good guys. He plans to use his gift card to treat his family and friends to a BBQ soon.
Officer Stefan Barry
The Lawrenceville, GA location had the pleasure of surprising Stefan Barry of the Snellville Police Department with a #RandomActsofBBQ. Stefan was nominated by his peers for being a great guy who does a lot for kids in our community.
Officer Mike Kreer
The Marietta team had the most fun celebrating Officer Mike Kreer. Mike served with the Marietta Police Department for over 20 years and now dedicates his time to the Marietta Baptist Church as a Security Officer.
Rock Hill Officers
The team at Rock Hill had the opportunity to award all the Police Officers in the Rock Hill Police Department. They fed 85 Law Enforcement officers in honor of Random Acts of Kindness week.
